David Alfred Kohl

David A. Kohl, 88, of Massillon, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 24, 2018.  Born in Perry Township, April 9, 1930, a son to the late Charles and Mabel (Huff) Kohl, David attended Washington High School and completed studies as an adult to receive his GED.  He worked in Massillon as a grinder for the Union Drawn Division of LTV Steel Corp. until his retirement.  He and his wife Elaine enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states.  David enjoyed almost every kind of music and was an accomplished bassist, playing bass fiddle with some local orchestras.
Spending quality time with his family, looking after the house and making music for fun and for the enjoyment of others are what he loved to do.  David was especially proud of his association with the Massillon Salvation Army where he served as Corps Sergeant-Major.  Serving Christ through service to others fulfilled the faith commitment that made his life complete.
Predeceased by his parents; three sisters and five brothers; daughters, Penelope Kohl Ferryman and Linda Kohl Ridgeway; and sons-in-law, Cliff Ridgeway and James Alexander; David is survived by his dear wife of 70 years, Elaine (Caillet) Kohl; and their children, Sharon (Roger) Mick, of Canton, Frances Kohl Alexander and David (Susan) Kohl, all of Massillon and Kenneth (Deb) Kohl, of Cape Coral, Florida.  Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018, at the Massillon Salvation Army.  Majors Ralph Campbell, Thomas and Linda Jo Perks will officiate and a private burial at Massillon Cemetery will follow.  The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service, from 10-11:00 a.m. in the church.  They have also suggested memorial contributions made to advance the mission and ministry of the Massillon Salvation Army, 315 – 6th Street Northeast, Massillon, Ohio  44646.
