Charles Eugene Border

Charles E. Border, 89, of Navarre, passed away peacefully at his home late Sunday evening, May 27, 2018.  Born in Beatrice, West Virginia, February 20, 1929, a son to the late Olin and Ona (Elliott) Border, Chuck had been a farmer for more than 80 years.  He had also worked as a crane operator - 21 years at the former Standard Slag & Gravel and retired after another 25 years at Republic Steel.  A loving husband, a devoted dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and great-great-grandpa, Chuck was an undeniably hard worker.  Always fascinated by machinery and good at working with his hands, Chuck was never shy about taking on a project and he loved the feeling of independence and the satisfaction he found working the farm. He was a member of the Massillon Church of Christ.  A gifted story teller, Chuck enjoyed reminiscing about “the old days” and looked forward to the change of seasons, deciding he liked the springtime best of all.

Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Reta Shackle; and great-great-grandson, Grayson; Chuck is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edna Mae (Baughman) Border; their three children, Gene (Judy) Border, Darlene (Mike) Miller and Kathy (Jeff) Miller, all of the area; grandchildren, Kristi McGonagle, Corey Woods and Erin (Caleb) McKnight; great-grandchildren, Justin, Zack, Tyler and Weston; great-great-grandchildren, Zack, Mason and Skylar; his sisters, Delores Gindlesberger and Millie Millar and brother, George Border, all of the area.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Navarre.  Evangelist Glenn Hawkins will officiate and burial will follow in Union Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive condolences Thursday evening, May 31, from 6-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  They have also suggested memorial contributions to advance the mission and ministry of the Massillon Church of Christ.
