Betty Lou McCartney, 87, of Navarre, passed away peacefully at her residence, Thursday afternoon, April 12, 2018. Born in Marietta, Ohio, April 9, 1931, a daughter to the late Walter and Mary Louise Mercer, the young family moved first to Byesville and then arrived in Massillon in time for Betty to have attended Washington High School. She placed her family at the center of her life and loved them dearly – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading and gardening.
Preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters; her husband, Thomas W. McCartney in 1993; and son-in-law, Richard F. Williams in 2015; Betty is survived by her children, Linda S. Williams, of Navarre and Thomas (Denise) McCartney, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Sean McCartney, of Wheeling, West Virginia and Brent McCartney, of Pittsburgh, James Carrel, of Brewster and Jennifer Carrel Knott, of Navarre; and great-grandsons, Dakota Carrel and Austin Sterner, both of Navarre.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 Tuesday morning, April 17, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Navarre. The family will receive condolences Tuesday morning in the funeral home from 10:30-11:30 and burial will follow in Union Lawn Cemetery.
