Ricky Alan Godby

Ricky A. Godby, 65, of Navarre, passed away Wednesday morning, February 14, 2024, following an extended period of declining health.  Born somewhat unexpectedly, on August 6, 1958, while the family was visiting friends in Columbus, Ohio, Rick and his parents, Herman and Reola (Adkins) Godby, returned to their home in West Virginia where he was reared and completed his education.

Rick’s delicate health was a concern from his earliest days.  He enjoyed the outdoors but stayed close to home, spending time collecting different things as his curiosity and imagination lead him in new directions.  He was an intuitive mechanic; loved to tinker and worked at repairing small engines.  A favorite hobby was photography, and this led to another collection of cameras and other equipment to round out his interest.  Rick came from fair-sized family whom he dearly loved, and enjoyed their company as often as they could get together, whether back home in West Virginia, at his place in Navarre, or somewhere in between.

Predeceased by his mom and dad; a brother, Timothy Godby; a half-brother, Gregory Scites; and a nephew, Christopher Godby; Rick is survived by his wife and best friend, Cynthia S. (Winkhart) Godby, of the home; and siblings, Kimberly Godby (and Ercel Workman), Lesa (Carl) Godby Mullens, Randy, and Don Godby, all of West Virginia, and Ronnie (Betty) Godby, of Missouri.  Twelve nieces and nephews also survive.

In keeping with Rick’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  Pastor Ash Welch will join with Rick’s family and friends as they gather to celebrate his life with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Otterbein United Methodist Church -  6025 Shepler Church Avenue SW, Navarre, OH 44662.  The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service, from 10-11:00 a.m. in the church.

In 2020, Rick was the recipient of a successful heart transplant.  The family felt it fitting that rather than additional flowers, memorial contributions in his name would be made to Lifebanc (Cleveland) through their secure website at lifebanc.org.
