William H. “Hank” Ross, of Massillon, following a full and blessed life, completed his earthly journey of 97 years in the comfort of his own home early Wednesday morning, December 27, 2017.  Born in Massillon, November 4, 1920, a son to the late William and Evelyn (Wilhelm) Ross, Hank graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1938.  He had completed his second year of college studies before entering the US Army Air Corps, serving for the duration of World War II and an honorable discharge in the spring of 1946.  Following his time in the service he returned to school and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Akron.  His professional career was spent as a customer service representative with the Timken Company Bearing Division.  That was what he did.  This is what he was:
A loving husband and life partner; a devoted dad; a mischievous and fun-loving grandpa and great-grandpa, Hank was the longest-lived member of the faith community of Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon.  He was also its longest-serving member, having humbly invested more than 84 years of his time, talent and treasure to the vital work and various ministries of the church.  A life-long learner and a true eclectic, his curiosity, quick wit, agile mind and genuine smile were just a few of his many gifts.  He enjoyed a broad range of hobbies that included stamp collecting and adding to his collection of antique Christmas lights.  He was an avid reader, an artist and an amateur astronomer.  A very competent mechanic he also loved to tinker with old radios but his favorite project was whatever he could do for one of us.
Predeceased by his parents; a granddaughter, Joy Elizabeth Minor; his brother, Tom, and sister-in-law, Carol Ross; Hank is survived by his dear wife, Mary “Genie” (Summers) Ross and their children, Mary E. Ross, of Massillon, Lilly (Ted) Minor, of Memphis, Tennessee, Katie (David) Ross-Spencer, of Austin, Texas and Tom L. (Sandy) Ross, also of Massillon; grandchildren, Heather, Quinn, Gray, Steven, Daniel, Luke and Joseph; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Central Presbyterian Church.  Pastor Larry Lalama will officiate and military honors will conclude the service.  The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service Saturday morning, from 10-11:00, in the church.  Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will follow on Friday morning, January 5, 2018.   Memorial contributions made to Central Presbyterian Church or the Massillon Museum will be warmly appreciated.
