Joan H. Mayfield, 83, of Massillon went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2012 while surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 21, 1928 to the late Fritz and Martha Werner, Joan enjoyed cooking and baking but, most of all she enjoyed her time as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Other than her parents, daughter Sandra and sister Gertrude Beftoulides preceded Joan in death. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of sixty-five years, Robert; daughters Nancy (David) Bucci and Elaine King; son Kenneth Mayfield; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and sister Erma Loew. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 1 PM at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home, Massillon Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends and family members may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 7th from 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s name to Stark County Hospice Foundation. We called her Mom and Grandma; we loved her visits, her phone calls and her "Grandma" ways. No one in the world makes apple dumplings or pie like Mom. Her acts of kindness and giving will never be forgotten. Talks with her at my kitchen table will always be a treasured memories as will the thoughts of her in my kitchen cooking our favorites or playing kings in the corner with my children.
It has been such a privilege to have her in our lives and we are all better for having know and loved her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. We love you all very much.
