Managing Funeral Director

Mike is a native of Massillon and a graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School, Stark Technical College, and the University of Phoenix.  He has been with the firm since 2004 and became a licensed funeral director in 2014. Mike is a member of St. Joseph's Church.  He and his wife have resided in Massillon for over 30 years.  "It is a privilege to continue the outstanding service this firm has provided to area families for over 100 years.  Each family can count on personal, caring, and dedicated service.  They have certain expectations during a very difficult time.  Our responsibility is to understand those expectations and use our experience to ensure we exceed them.  This is our purpose, and our pledge.

Kathleen A. Bachtel

Kathleen A. Bachtel

Director Apprentice

Kathleen has worked as secretary since 2015 and began her funeral director apprenticeship in 2019.  She will obtain her license in the fall of 2021. She is a graduate of Massillon Washington High School and received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from Westminster College. In addition to her duties to the firm, Kathleen also teaches vocal lessons to local youths, performs in community theater, and sings with the choir of Central Presbyterian Church of Massillon. She is honored to provide dedicated and compassionate care to the families she serves.

Edward J. Hare, Sr. (Retired)

Funeral Director/Embalmer

Ed is a licensed funeral director/embalmer and has been with the firm since 1971. He holds a B.S. Degree in Education from Eastern Kentucky University and a Mortuary Science Degree from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Ed attends Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church in Jackson township. His community involvement over the years has been extensive. His passion has been with the Massillon Heritage Foundation and preservation of Five Oaks, home of the Massillon Woman’s Club. Ed enjoys spending time with his wife, Nancy; daughter, Jennifer; son, Chip; and four grandchildren.
